Pattern Cutting and Construction...
In previous pattern cutting lessons I have gotten quite frustrated and therefore have not found it that enjoyable however last week we were making sleeves and different facings and I found it really interesting but LONG and HARD! I feel that I am getting better at pattern cutting and understanding it more clearly and how to use the pattern master. I nnow need to finish off the darts that I missed.
On friday we started to make our A-line skirts. In the morning we were laying out patterns down and cutting out the material using cotton drill which for some reason took us all morning. Then in the afternoon we looked at interfacings which I found really interesting as I hadn't looked at all the different ones before. We then finally began to sew the skirts together which I didnt realise would be so stressful I have now discovered I hate invisible zips and I never want to use one again. I really struggled with this and got far too stressed over it!! Not good.

Communicating Visions in Black and White...
Today was really quite a fun day. I really enjoyed making the outfit. At first i didn't really know where to go with it and what to do but i knew i wanted to do quite extravagant shoulders and so I just went from there. I also wanted to do it kind of in the style of Gareth Pugh as I really like his work and so i decided to base the shoulders on an armadillo with the many layers. I then went onto the arms and as i was working with lauren and she had done weaving on the back I decided to weave the arms so our creations worked well together. I now must do the research side of this project in order to create my sketchbook.

Modelling on the stand...

Last Thursday we modelled on the stand. At first I really enjoyed doing it as it was going quite well. First we had to put the modelling tape on the stand which was pretty simple apart from the armhole which was a tad fiddly but went okay. Then the calico came out. First we had to place it on the stand so it was laying straight on the centre front but then when we were cutting the neck so it curved properly and I cut a bit too far and it basically went downhill from here. We then had to fold darts into the calico which I also did wrong as I didn't match it up with the seams on the stand. After this everything else on the stand went pretty smoothly however as soon as I took it off the stand and had to measure it and draw the darts in properly and add labels I realised how badly I had actually done it which is fairly frustrating but I had a good time doing it.
